### SUMMARY
Severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts will occur today from the northern Indiana into parts of the Ohio Valley and central Appalachians. Areas of severe wind gusts and hail will also be possible over parts of the northern Plains.
IL/IN/OH
A fast moving and intense bowing MCS is affecting the Chicago metro area this morning with significant severe wind gusts. This activity will race east-southeastward across northern IN and eventually western OH. Increasingly widespread thunderstorms and associated outflow ahead of this complex lends uncertainty to the evolution of the bow, and the corridor of greatest damaging wind potential. Refer to MDs #1921 and #1922 for further details.
OH/WV/KY/VA
Another linear MCS is affecting southeast OH, and will spread across WV and into VA later today. The air mass ahead of this complex is not as unstable, and considerable uncertainty exists regarding this system's longevity. Nevertheless, sufficient flow aloft and mesoscale organization will maintain a risk of damaging wind gusts. Refer to MD #1923 for further details.
ND/SD/NE
Moderately strong westerly flow aloft is present today across the Dakotas, with a moist and unstable air mass in place over the Black Hills region. This will likely lead to widely scattered thunderstorm development by early evening. Supercells capable of large hail and damaging winds are expected. It is unclear how far southeast these storms will maintain intensity, but model guidance suggests at least into central SD before weakening overnight.

### SUMMARY
Thunderstorms with severe gusts and hail will be possible Wednesday afternoon and evening across parts of the central and northern High Plains. Damaging gusts and isolated hail will also be possible across parts of the Midwest and Ohio Valley.
Illinois/Lower Ohio Valley
Forecast uncertainty remains high for these regions. Morning convection, or lack thereof, will influence the location/magnitude of afternoon severe potential. At least modest southwesterly flow at low levels is expected to continue into Wednesday morning. It is at least plausible that the boundary within Iowa/Illinois remains stationary or makes only modest southward progress. Weak warm advection may promote elevated storms in northern Illinois by mid morning. These storms could produce large hail and isolated wind damage. Into the afternoon, this activity could have a tendency to develop southward into a very moist, destabilizing airmass in the Lower Ohio Valley. Another possibility is the development along the surface boundary during the afternoon. The eastward progress of storms will likely be limited as substantial impact from convection is anticipated from Tuesday afternoon/evening. Steep mid-level lapse rates and 40-45 kt of effective shear will allow for organized storms capable of isolated large hail and damaging winds. Damaging winds are expected to be the main threat as upscale growth is expected to occur quickly. The 15% Wind/Slight Risk has been adjusted northward and eastward to account for trends in guidance and expected airmass destabilization.
Central Plains
Moist, easterly flow north of a developing surface low in eastern Colorado/western Kansas will allow for moderate to strong destabilization across parts of Nebraska/southern South Dakota. Steep mid-level lapse rates and moderate to strong effective shear will promote supercell development from near the Black Hills to southwestern Nebraska. Large hail and isolated severe wind gusts would be possible initially. Some intensification of the low-level jet may lead to upscale growth into one or more linear segments moving eastward. The potential for a more organized MCS is not clear given the low-level jet will be focused farther east. Elevated storms associated with the low-level jet core are possible in eastern Nebraska/western Iowa where large hail and isolated wind gusts may occur.
North Dakota into Wisconsin Michigan
Modest destabilization is expected farther north into the northern Plains and Upper Midwest/Great Lakes. Sufficient mid-level flow will be present for organized storms. The main questions will be storm coverage and longevity. Isolated wind damage and large hail would occur with the strongest, sustained storms.
Carolinas/southern Appalachians
Uncertainty in the evolution of early morning convection remains relatively high. While an MCV from convection in the Ohio Valley may impact parts of these regions, the timing of this feature may not lend to an organized severe threat during the afternoon. The Marginal risk will be maintained this outlook cycle for potential isolated strong to severe storms. However, the potential for sufficient airmaass destabilization continues to appear low.

### SUMMARY
Isolated severe storms are possible on Thursday from the central High Plains into the Ohio Valley.
Central High Plains eastward to the Ohio Valley
Elevated convection and possibly a remnant MCS may be ongoing at the start of the forecast period across parts of IA/northern MO into IL, aided by a southwesterly low-level jet. Large-scale support for this convection is generally forecast to weaken through the day, though any remnant storm cluster or MCV may become the focus for afternoon intensification and wind-damage potential into parts of the Ohio Valley, if it is well-timed with downstream diurnal destabilization.
Otherwise, moderate to strong destabilization will again be possible from parts of the Midwest into the central Plains, in the vicinity of a frontal zone. The position of the frontal zone is uncertain due to the influence of antecedent Day 1-2 convection, and large-scale ascent appears nebulous at best for much of the day within a regime of weak midlevel height rises. Isolated storm development cannot be ruled out near the front through early evening, with somewhat greater coverage possible across parts of the central High Plains and adjacent higher terrain. Low-level warm advection may allow for an increase in storm coverage into late evening near the front, though the later activity would likely be somewhat elevated.
Deep-layer shear will generally be somewhat weaker than previous days, but still sufficient for some storm organization where deep convection can be sustained. A broad 5% area has been included in the anticipated vicinity of the frontal zone, though confidence in the details of storm development and evolution remains rather low.
Parts of the Great Lakes and Northeast
Moderate to strong west-northwesterly mid/upper-level flow will overspread parts of the Great Lakes and Northeast on Thursday, in association with a seasonably deep upper trough extending from eastern Canada into the northeast CONUS. Guidance varies considerably regarding the extent (if any) of destabilization across this region during the afternoon. Probabilities may eventually be needed for parts of this region, if confidence increases regarding sufficient destabilization in association with the strengthening wind fields.
